SSD vs HDD Music making 2020

As usual there may be Referral links if they are available but in no way sway thinking when it comes to writing the articles, blog posts or recommendations

It’s been a few weeks and I’ve been sat on this SSD blog/article, unsure of how to write it. By this I mean the SSD is good, very good. All sorts of improvements, but that’s about it.
Maybe I could about the mechanical differences transfer speed and a whole manner of things to do with the SSD specification, but then the only people the care about that sort of stuff definitely already know more than I do about SSD &HDD comparison plus there will be far better article s on the subject then what I could write.

So just before christmas my laptop gave me the message that the hard disk drive was on it’s way out.
panicking and hopeful that it was just a run-of-the-mill error, i searched the internet for a solution. (on the failing laptop of course)
After confirming from a few different sources I was slightly relieved that it could be weeks or possibly months before my HDD packed in completly and what I received was just a forewarning.
But I also confirmed from multiple sources my hard disk drive could explode at any moment take it out half of the street in the blast.

I backed everything up, in multiple locations, multiple devices then just waited for the inevitable, I was expecting it whilst finishing a track or something similar with my luck.

Thankfully armageddon never came, judgement was not passed and I managed to replace the hard disk drive with a new solid state drive so with an adaptor I should still be able to access any bits and bobs I may have missed after the last backup before the replacement. Installation was simple but I suppose it depends more on the manufacturing of the laptop as to how easy it is to change.

With my three boys eating me out of house and home, whilst it just being christmas, there wasn’t much financial backing for the project at hand, a few hours of research and bargain hunting and a couple of hours reading reviews, I purchased the Kingston SSD A400 Solid 480GB state drive.

I had also considered the Crucial MX500 500GB SSD

I tell you right now, 100% without a shadow of a doubt, upgrading to an SSD from a HDD will massively improve speeds, not just faster with powerful software like Ableton running 45 instances each of Serum and Omnisphere or editing a 4k, 3D music video but the little things improve which is more noticeable.
For example, after reinstalling some previous software, you sometimes have to restart the PC or laptop (no idea about Macs)
It was doing a restart when came the first issue.
I tried twice to restart the laptop but it seems to be having none of it. On the third attempt I watched in case there was something popping up to explain why wasn’t Restarting.
I found the problem straight away. There it was in all its glory.
There was no restart problem, it was just with the speed of the SSD. After being used to 1-2 minutes startups, I must have missed the others because, my new Super SSD was loading windows in about 5 seconds..
Wow, I didn’t expect that, nor had a really thought about it.
